Movies

A visit to the cinema on New Years day has started to be a bit of a tradition; I catch only a few movies on the big screen in the course of a year, and it always seems a sensible way to spend the evening following the excesses of hogmany.

For the past couple of years we’ve followed the The Lord Of The Rings series. I must admit to being luke warm; the films have had to work well to win me over with their charm because I did not come to them a die hard fan of Tolkein to begin with.

This clip from an MTV award ceremony(5Mb ) reminded me that the Kiwi crew working on the films have a peculiar brand of humour. I was a real fan of the sort of films that Peter Jackson was doing sixteen years ago. The gut-spilling humour in Bad Taste amused me more than the more recent offerings – the elves and hobbits have one more chance to impress me.
