Baghdad Burning

Gavin, 12 September 03

Baghdad Burning presents the views of one girl in post war Iraq. Compelling reading for insight into the havoc spread as the US tries to install it’s proxy rule to replace the Saddam dictatorship, discounting any voice of the Iraqi people.

There is a wry take on the recent speech read by GWB:
“Friends, Americans, Countrymen, lend me your ears… lend me your sons and daughters, lend me your tax dollars… so we can wage war in the name of American national security (people worldwide are willing to die for it)... so I can cover up my incompetence in failing to protect you… so I can add to the Bush and Cheney family coffers at your expense and the expense of the Iraqi people. I don’t know what I’m doing, but if you spend enough money, you’ll want to believe that I do.”

Oil and Halliburton – profit for the US money men, the new rulers in Iraq – the real reasons for the war are expressed more succinctly by Baghdad Burning than any of the mainstream media.

Recently a committee has criticised the presentation of a UK government dossier, clarifying that even if the intelligence services thought that Iraq might have possessed WMD, they had none capable of ballistic deployment. They might, just might, have had battlefield weapons. But there were no missiles ready to launch in 45 minutes as the UK government spin would have had us believing. The dossiers did not lie – they were just amenable to differences of presentation. Who was in charge of the presentation – a certain Mr Campbell I do believe.

Revealing past lies and spin will not make any difference to the lives of ordinary Iraqi’s expressed in Baghdad Burning – but confirms the only reason for the war to occupy that land was control of the oil.
