I have owned a car for a little over two years. Sometimes it seems easy to feel dependant on private transport – the basic daily commute, weekends away. I certainly would have trouble using public transport to commute, and the distance I travel daily is just beyond what would be possible walking. As Winter approaches I’m reminded why I never opted for cycling, yet parking is such a nightmare that I must look to alternatives. My old car has kept going fine, though I think I’d probobly prefer finding any future employment somewhere that meant I could walk – far healthier as well.
When it comes to longer trips, the trains seem to operate on the principle that you should expect a few hours delay on any journey. I certainly find that to be the case at weekends, when delays are prevalent supposedly due to engineering and repair works neglected in the years following privatisation.
