SP2 is here and it seems as good a time as any to do an Aliens1 and reinstall the XP system. The SP2 patch is supposed to fix security isues – but to be honest having kept up to date with the various fixes; running a decent firewall and anti-virus alongside use of Firefox I like to think I am already pretty secure.
Meanwhile my Linux boot hums along pleasantly with minimal maintenance. The proportion of time spent in each OS creeps steadily towards the GNU OS.
One or two toys keeping me coming back to the Redmond OS are Adobe Audition and the old classic Subspace/Continuum.
1 Apparently a quote from the Aliens film “I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.” Which typifies a Windows installation as much as an Alien infestation. It gets to a certain point that the system has accumulated so much crud that wiping out the whole system and starting again is advisable. It’s the only way to be sure.
