When IE introduced marquee – web standards enthusiasts were aghast – this non-standard extension to HTML was viewed as both ugly and unneccessary. It was almost as unloved as the horrible tag that Netscape had devised.
I even voted on bugzilla against implementing marquee in the mozilla and firefox line of browsers. But eating humble pie, I suppose I have to admit that it comes useful on the odd day. The Lakeland Institute homepage is a page I keep updated and when the list of forthcoming events grew too big for a simple banner on the main page there was only one choice. Marquee. Call me a turncoat if you will.
I now admit that a discreet use of marquee doesn’t spoil it. Well almost.
