Dublin

Enjoying a long weekend in Dublin.

With tickets at a penny each from Ryan Air, I continued the cheapskate travelling theme by booking a place in the dorm of Kinlay House – a Hostel near Christ Church Cathedral. It’s just on the edge of the Temple Bar area – pleasant enough place especially as all I want is somewhere to kip of a night.

I have walked miles across the City, putting context to what history I know, but mostly highlighting the extent of my ignorance with regard to most of it – although I’d known the post office was a key site of the 1916 uprising, I had always thought a post office was a strange place to declare independence until I walked along O’Connell Street. My only knowledge of the literary history came from a reading of Shane McGowans Biography until a trip around the Museum of Irish Writers. Still a heap load of things to do – I’ve been shopping most of the morning, and despite prices being a bit more expensive if anything – I have bought a new jacket and a few other bits and pieces. I can write off the expense as what I would have paid for a proper room in a Dublin Hotel.
