Was just planning on making it a quick trip to the supermarket. Maybe a bit of a drive afterwards.
In the end, with untypical spontaneity I managed to spend a couple of hours walking including a trek across the sands to Hilbre Islands. Wonderful views of the Wirral and across to North Wales.

There is a nature reserve and abandoned life boat station on these small islands in the Dee Estuary. They are true islands twice a day at high tide.

Nice pleasant walk and glad to find such things that I had no idea about on my doorstep. It amazes me how many areas of outstanding beauty I miss nearby despite travelling hundreds of miles to find others.
It is something I have long realised – I grew up on the edge of the English Lake District, yet it wasn’t until I was living in London that I truly grew to appreciate the landscape each time the train crossed the Leven viaduct returning North.
