Easter05

Gavin, 31 March 05

Spent a fair part of this Easter editing footage of parents’ round the world trip. Looked at options from Adobe – then tried out Kino on Linux and some software that came with the firewire card. All failed in some way – partly because their PC doesn’t support SSE.

Ended up using Microsoft Movie Maker, which was actually adequate for the needs. I don’t know whether it is licensing issues or an attempt to push their closed format, but it only seems to produce WMV files as output.

Actually when using TMPGenc to encode later – it seems that licensing of the MPEG format is the real problem and for a change it’s not just Microsoft being proprietary bad guys.
